How to Plan an Irish Wedding

Irish Bride Shirts
With St. Patrick’s Day around the corner you can expect to see some Irish themed weddings and their unique photos on your Facebook feed. Irish weddings are seriously rooted in tradition as all wedding ceremonies are, but an Irish themed wedding is a totally different way to add one-of-a-kind color palettes, jewelry, attire, and customs to your ceremony! Below are some staples of an Irish wedding that may just inspire you to add a little extra luck to your own big day:

  • Braids! Braids for the bride, bridesmaids, maid of honor, and your flower girl will add an old-world touch of class to your ceremony. Not to mention, they make for a super easy updo, keep flyaways at bay, and look great on just about everyone.
  • Green and orange. Straying from the norm of pastels, pinks, and purples, planning an Irish themed wedding will ask of you to incorporate some orange and most definitely green into your flowers, centerpieces, and accents.
  • The Claddagh ring. Perhaps, your Irish roots are a little distant and you don’t necessarily want the Claddagh to be your ring. However, the heart-in-hand symbol represents love, loyalty, and friendship. HELLO, can you say perfect bridesmaids gifts?!
  • Tying the Knot. Ironically, the phrase “tying the knot” is rooted in an Irish wedding tradition. Once the bride and groom have signified their pledge to each other, a rope or ribbon is tied around their clasped hands to symbolize their commitment to one another.
  • Irish dancing. Maybe you don’t want to go overboard and hire Riverdance to perform at your wedding, but a few Irish step dancers or Irish step dancing lessons at the beginning of your reception is a good way to break the ice and get the party started. We’re willing to bet that any of your guests can be turned into Irish dancers after a few pints of Guiness anyway!
  • Kilts. Again, we totally get it if your groom (or you don’t want your groom) dressed in a traditional kilt for the big day, but try incorporating plaid vests or cummberbunds into the groom’s party. Think how cute would the ring bearer would look!
  • Wedding Bells. Another Irish wedding tradition is incorporating bells into the ceremony. Some say the tradition is to give a small bell to every wedding guest to ring to ward off any evil spirits and protect the bride and groom. Others believe that it is Celtic tradition to gift the bride and groom a bell on their wedding day as a reminder of their devotion to each other. Whenever an argument is brewing, one of them rings the bell and declares a truce of sorts.
  • Irish lace. Chances are you’re already considering lace in your wedding dress or veil. If you haven’t made the decision yet, go for lace! Lace is a part of Irish wedding traditions and will add a soft, feminine touch to your look for the day.
  • Your Custom Irish Bride shirt! For when you’re running around making all of these plans, for your honeymoon, or for your bachelorette party, customize an Irish Bride shirt!
  • Luck. Everyone wishes the bride and groom luck on their matrimonious day. But if you do it right, horseshoes and shamrocks can add a touch of the Irish flare that you’re looking for! Try putting a few four leaf clovers in your bouquet or your bridesmaids’ bouquets. They can be pulled off in a flower hair crown too. Horseshoes are perfect necklace, bracelet, or garter charms. Or print the symbol on your invitations, programs, and party favor bags! You never know if these little touches will bring you extra tidings of good luck!
  • Ireland! And finally, after your Irish wedding is over and the guests have gone home, pack your bags for a honeymoon in Ireland.

However you theme your wedding just bring lots of love and we’re sure you’ll find all the luck you need.

5 Ways to Ask Your Bridesmaids to be in the Wedding

Bridesmaids in the wedding

Once he has proposed and you have returned back to earth from being on cloud nine, it’s time to start assembling the wedding you have always dreamed of! So start creating those Pinterest wedding boards and begin taking notes of all the things you like. As the wedding begins to take shape, you’ll want to start making decisions on who will be a bridesmaid in your wedding. For some brides, choosing who will be a bridesmaid is the easiest part. The difficulty is coming up with a creative way to ask them to be a part of your big day. To help get things kick started, we have compiled five ways you can ask your bridesmaids to be in your wedding. One just might be the right fit for you!

1) Bottle of Wine

Does wine always seem to make an appearance when you have a get together with the girls you want to ask to be your bridesmaids? If so, consider giving each a bottle of wine with a tag on the bottle asking them to be in the wedding. Plus, after they say yes, you can open up the bottle to celebrate!

2) Handwritten Card

With email, text messaging and social media becoming the most popular way to communicate these days, receiving a handwritten note has a lot more meaning.

3) Custom Bridal Party Apparel

This is our favorite, of course! Customize bridesmaid shirts and a maid of honor shirt for the women you want to have standing up in your wedding. By giving them a bridal party shirt with their name on it, they will instantly be filled with excitement about being a part of your big day.

4) Sending Something Sweet

If you have baking talent, why not make something sweet like cookies or brownies? You can even decorate them with the question of, “Will you be my bridesmaid?” It will be as sweet as the sugary delight you baked.

5) Ask the Group in Person

There’s nothing much better than spending some time with the girls you are closest to by going out for manicures or spending a fun day by the pool. This is the perfect time to ask all of them in person to be your bridesmaids.

How are you or how did you ask your bridesmaids to be in your wedding?

There’s a New Flower Girl in Town!

Traditionally, the flower girl position is reserved for the youngest female member of the family, but don’t be so quick to hand over those flower petals to your 6-year-old niece quite yet!

We came across pictures of Lana and Michael’s wedding and just fell in love with their choice of flower girls, their grandmothers! The choice to have their grandmothers in the wedding as flower girls fit perfectly with their theme of family roots. So as you plan your wedding and are looking to fill the role of flower girl(s) for your big day, consider the ladies who are the foundation of your family tree too!

No matter whom you choose to be your sweet flower girl at the wedding, either option will draw the same “awes” and “how cute” comments from guests right before you walk down the aisle, which is always the biggest responsibility of all flower girls despite age.

How To Hire An Amazing Wedding Photographer

One of the more expensive costs involved in planning a wedding is when you are looking to hire a professional wedding photographer. A good wedding photographer is one that can capture the best moments of the wedding. Not only will they be focused on you, your groom and the bridal party, they will also be skilled enough to catch some of the more candid shots of your guests too! When your wedding is all said and done, the photos will more than likely be the one keepsake that you can reminisce over for years to come. It can be tempting to skimp on this part of the wedding and to devote more of the wedding budget to something else, but remember: if you hire an amateur, you will probably get amateur results.

We understand how difficult it can be to hire a wedding photographer, especially one you can trust and afford, so we’ve complied a list of things to consider before signing on the dotted line.

Always meet them in person

This way you can see what their personality is like and if they are someone you can ultimately see working with on your wedding day. Get to know their process for taking photos and make sure they have a passion for this career!

View their past work

You can easily find out what type of pictures you will end up with by the type of photos they have taken of other weddings in the past. When you describe your wedding to the photographer, they should be able to find a similar wedding they have done to show and demonstrate their style of photography. Pay attention to the different poses he or she uses when photographing the bride, groom and the wedding party, then make a note of which ones you liked. Looking through the photos of other weddings they’ve done will also give you an idea of how adaptable they are to different venues and locations.

Ask about the equipment they use and if they have an assistant

If their equipment fails the day of your wedding, do they have backup equipment in place to make sure you get the quality pictures you want for your wedding? A true professional will have other equipment and a backup plan in case of an emergency. Also, ask if they have an assistant. While an assistant can help move the process along and keep things organized the day of, sometimes they are an added cost. It’s also a good idea to ask if they use film, digital or both.

Photo packages

Find out what they are willing to take pictures of and what the additional costs are. Some photographers are more than willing to take photos for events other than the day of. Ask what is all included in the package they provide and if other smaller events like engagement photos, a groomsmen golf outing or a bridesmaid luncheon can be bundled together.

Get their commitment in writing

Finally, when you have all the details squared away, get a written contract signed by both parties to avoid the risks that can come with planning such a large event. Outline what you want and have the photographer provide an itemized list of what everything costs. Make sure both you and the photographer have a clear understanding on when payments are due and when the finished photos will be delivered.

We hope these few tips will have you on your way to hiring an amazing wedding photographer who will produce amazing photos for you to look back on for years to come!
