Go hunting for sand dollars and once you have enough collected simply prep them by placing them in bleach water. If you do not live near a beach, or if hunting sand dollars is not your thing, then you can purchase them fairly inexpensively at your local craft store. For a wonderful escort card display, write guest’s name on the front of the sand dollar and their table number on the back. Now simply find a wonderful tray or box and fill it with sand. Elegant Favor Centerpiece

favor centerpice

Humble supplies can take on an elegant air: Monogrammed stickers and crepe paper decorate clear plastic tubes filled with champagne-bubble candies. They’re then piled into a glass compote around a smaller compote of crepe-paper flowers.

Tools and Materials
You will need candies; acrylic tubes, 3 3/4 by 2 inches in diameter, with lids; regular and double-sided tape; scissors; crepe paper cut into 6 1/2-by-3 3/4-inch pieces (two per tube); 3/8-inch-wide double-faced satin ribbon in 6 5/8-inch lengths (four per tube); sticker paper; and a craft punch.

Fancy Candy How-To
1. Fill tubes; tape lids closed. Wrap crepe paper around ends, lining up seams; secure with double-sided tape and fringe ends with scissors.

2. Tape a ribbon around each end where tube meets paper, lining up seams. Gather paper and tie.

3. Photocopy a monogram on sticker paper; punch out, and affix to tubes on side without seams.

Making Paper Flowers
You will need crepe paper, 18-gauge cloth-wrapped floral wire, floral tape, and our petal template. Trace template, and cut out petals (12 to 15 per flower), making sure grain of paper is vertical. For stamens, cut wire to 6 inches. Then cut a 3-inch square of paper, and fold it into a triangle. Bring tips in together; twist. Secure tips to end of wire with floral tape. Cup each petal by holding at center and tugging gently outward; curl top edge outward; and pleat base. Tape petals to stamens, wrapping inner petals low and raising subsequent rows slightly, overlapping them. Fluff out petals.

DIY Tuxedo Strawberries

strawberry

Dress up your traditional chocolate covered strawberries for the wedding occasion. These cute little strawberries could cost you four dollars each if you bought them pre-made but now you can get them at a faction of the price! Make these ahead of time and serve them at your bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, or even the wedding!

SERVINGS: 18

TIME: Prep: 1 hour + chilling

Ingredients:
18 medium fresh strawberries with stems
1 cup vanilla or white chips
3-1/2 teaspoons shortening, divided
1-1/3 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:
Line a tray or baking sheet with waxed paper; set aside. Wash strawberries and pat until completely dry.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt vanilla chips and 1-1/2 teaspoons shortening at 70% power; stir until smooth. Dip each strawberry until two-thirds is coated, forming the tuxedo shirt, allowing excess to drip off. Place on prepared tray; chill for 30 minutes or until set.

Melt chocolate chips and remaining shortening. To form the tuxedo jacket, dip each side of berry into chocolate from the tip of the strawberry to the top of vanilla coating. Repeat on the other side, leaving a white V-shape in the center. Set remaining chocolate aside. Chill berries for 30 minutes or until set.

Remelt reserved chocolate if necessary. Using melted chocolate and a round pastry tip #2, pipe a bow tie at the top of the white V and three buttons down front of shirt. Chill for 30 minutes or until set. Store in the refrigerator in a covered plastic container for up to 1 day. Yield: 1-1/2 dozen.

DIY Seashell Candle Favors

seashell

If you are having a beach wedding, then here is an inexpensive favor idea that your guests are sure to love! If you live close to a beach collect a variety of shells and make seashell candles. If you are not close to the sea, have no worries! Shells can be bought fairly cheap at your local craft store. To make these candles, simply follow the directions below.

What you’ll need:
• Bar of paraffin
• Wicks
• Metal wick holders
• Double boiler with a pouring lip
• Shells
• Stubs of colored candles
Most of these items can be found at your local craft store. If you can’t find metal wick holders, remove the wicks from inexpensive tea lights. Use stubs from colored candles to make candles in various shades.

Method:
Clean shells in a 10% bleach solution. Rinse with cool water and let dry.
Cut up the paraffin block into smaller chunks with a sharp knife. Melt them in the top of the double boiler by heating the water below to a slow simmer. Use the paraffin as is, or you may wish to add bits of colored wax for different color combinations. This is a great way to use up your old candle stubs. Experiment with color blends, but remember that the wax will be a shade darker when it dries.
Cover a steady surface with plastic or newspapers. Balance one of the shells on a small cup and slowly pour in the melted wax. Immediately place the wick and wick holder in the center of the shell. Leave wax to cool for at least 30 minutes so all the wax will harden fully.
Enjoy your beautiful seashell candles!
