2009 Summer Wedding Trend~ Lush White Flowers

Whoever said white was boring, totally did not check out these designs! From carnations to hydrangeas, lush white flowers are the way to go this summer. The all white look is a clean and  sophisticated approach. The key to making this look successful is to not skimp on the flowers. Make sure the flowers are full and the arrangements are lush. If you would like a more simplistic approach, you could use a various shades of white. Another option is to pick flowers that make a big statement, such as calla lilies or orchids. Just keep in mind that these flowers will also come with a higher price tag.

Tulips and Oranges Centerpiece

Just in time for Easter or a spring themed wedding or shower! This beautiful design is courtesy of Martha Stewart. I love the clean fresh design of the flowers as well as the fun colors of jelly beans. These will give your guests something yummy to munch on while they are waiting!

How-to

 

1. Place a plastic liner inside a basket.

 

2. Press clumps of wheatgrass, with a bit of soil still attached, around the edges of the larger liner.

 

3. Place a second, slightly smaller liner inside the first liner to hold the wheatgrass in.

 

4. Pour water and cut-flower food into plastic liner.

 

5. Cut tulips about 2-inches from the head of the flower, and prick the stem with a pin or knife to prevent growth.

6. Arrange tulips in basket.

Reduce, reuse, and recycle just took on a whole new meaning with South Carolina boys Matt and Ted Lee. The Lee brothers have made a career of getting back to good old American basics. To wit, they created this centerpiece right out of the canned-foods aisle. To re-create the look, choose retro-looking cans from your own market, empty them — to make a pie, perhaps — and fill them with small bunches of flowers. This idea is super simple and would be perfect for a vineyard themed wedding–you could even use wine bottles instead of cans– or even a country themed wedding. Depending on the cans you choose this idea would be a great money saver for a variety of weddings.The options and designs are endless! Isn’t that just canny? Sorry! I had to say it!

If you are having a spring wedding then this DIY idea is perfect for you. These cute little bird nests are made from doilies! They are a simply favor or table decoration for any wedding or wedding show. Here is how to achieve this look!

 

Tools and Materials
Stitched (not paper) doily
Bowl in the shape of the basket you would like to make
Fabric stiffener

 

Doily Basket How-To
1. Soak doily in bowl of fabric stiffener until saturated.

 

2. Remove doily from stiffener and place over bowl (or along inside of bowl) to form a basket shape.

 

3. Allow to dry. Carefully peel dried basket from bowl.

Enliven your wedding or bridal shower with an arrangement of eggcup bouquets displayed on cake stands. Choose small-budded flowers in similar hues, such as the tulips, lily of the valley, paperwhites, and daffodils. Trim the stems so the blossoms will peek over the rims of the eggcups. Place a small round metal floral frog in each eggcup to help shape and weight the arrangements. Fill the cups three-quarters of the way with water, and then add the blooms. Arrange the mini bouquets on and around stands. You can then let the guests take the mini bouquets home for a favor and centerpiece all in one!

If you are looking for a unique table arrangement, I have just the thing for you! These hollowed-out eggshells make a naturally beautiful vases for tiny flower arrangements. Break an egg at the top of its shell, drain the contents, and carefully rinse out the inside. Next, fill the empty shell with room-temperature water and place it in an eggcup for stability. Finally, insert small cuttings of your favorite blossoms ( lilacs, lily of the valley, and violas are pictured above). Individually or grouped together in a centerpiece, these tiny arrangements make a wonderful addition to the place settings at your table.

Daring designer Genevieve Gorder works decorating miracles on The Learning Channel’s Trading Spaces , and she did the same with this centerpiece. If the design alone is not good enough,then the price will be.  She made this arrangement for about $6! The ingredients: a cheap bunch of supermarket flowers, a bag of colorful dried beans and some tall glasses drinking glasses. Fill each glass with a 2- to 3-inch layer of beans and add a few tablespoons of water. Trim one flower stem to fit inside each glass, then arrange the “vases” down the center of the table. Wah-La! You have a beautiful centerpiece at a fraction of a florist’s price!
