Halloween Wedding Favors

Halloween wedding favors can be anything from and whimsy to rich and elegant. However, this is the theme that you can go all out with and have tons of fun with.  Plus, I am guessing if you are having a Halloween theme you have a fun loving personality anyway. So here is my list of options for favor ideas that really capture the theme!

Witches Shoes filled with Candy
Get glass slipper favor dishes at your local craft store and paint them black and decorate them like a witch’s shoe. Then, fill the witches shoe with candy and place them at each place setting. Your guests will laugh at your creative spin on a typical wedding favor.

Make Your Own Halloween Shaped Candy
You can always buy Halloween candy molds and make candies or suckers for each of your guests in spooky Halloween shapes. This is a fun Halloween wedding favor, and one that doesn’t have to cost much. Guests always appreciate something that is made or has a personal touch.

Candles
Candles always make a great Halloween wedding favor. You can buy witch hat shapes votive holders and candles online or at party stores for about a dollar each. These cute candles can be placed at each place setting to double as both decoration and favors.

Tombstones
Little tombstones can be made or found at craft, hobby, or party stores. These tombstones can be personalized for each person and placed at each place setting, and then taken home as memorabilia. A lot of places now sell small tombstone shaped boxes that can be filled with candy or other goodies.

Jack-o-Lanterns
There are also fake pumpkins now that can be carved. You can buy a small one for each place setting, carve it with the persons name in it, and then have them take it home to set outside their home for Halloween for years to come. Some of the best Halloween wedding favors are those that keep on giving.

Trick or Treat Bags
Since it’s Halloween, fill small paper trick or treat bags with the orange foil covered chocolate pumpkins and other candies. You can also set up a candy bar with fun Halloween candies and give each guest a trick-or-treat to gather there candy in.

Pumpkin Butter
Purchases small jars of pumpkin butter and give them to each guest. It’s like pumpkin pie in a jar and it’s great on biscuits and crackers.

Miniature Pumpkin Pies
Check with a local baker to see if you could have miniature pumpkin pies made or make them yourself. Wrap in cellophane and tie with orange/black ribbons. Simple, unique and delicious!

Pumpkin Bread
Give each guest a mini loaf of pumpkin bread to take home. It is delicious and gives them something to munch on when they go home.

Fall Favor Option~Mini Pies

mini pie

Scrumptious tartlets from a bakery in custom-stamped bags make for tasty treats that are easy as pie to assemble in advance. Miniature pecan pies, which will stay fresh longer than most desserts, can be picked up at the store or delivered to you a day before the wedding. When you receive the pies, bridesmaids or moms can add extra pecans, tuck them into wax-lined bags (ours are decorated with a custom-made rubber stamp), and seal them with double-sided tape. A tray set by the coat check is sure to be emptied as guests take their leave.Source

Caramel Apples

carmel apple

If you are looking for a fun unique wedding favor, why not give them caramel apples. Caramel Apples are fun and festive for a fall themed wedding. You can dip them in peanuts or just leave them plain. Serve these apples as part of a desert buffet or candy ball and place them on top of silk leaves as pictured above. Another option is to place the apples on a sheet of wax paper, gather at the top and tie with ribbon and a few leaves. Easy, simple, fun, and oh so cute!

Fall Dessert Buffet from Martha Stewart Weddings

fall desert bar

Wonderful for an afternoon wedding, perhaps one held outdoors, this display is inspired by seasonal fruits and reminiscent of a farmers’ market, right down to the handwritten labels. Lots of late-summer produce is used here, but every season has its bounty (in the winter, citrus fruits and pomegranates are fitting). In a galvanized vase, branches bearing tiny crab apples reflect the natural theme.

Dessert Menu
Apple-Cheddar Tarts
Fig and Cream-Cheese Tartlets
Blueberry-Maple Shortbread
Tartlets
Rhubarb Pie with Pecan Crumble
Meringue Clouds with Berries
Peach-Raspberry Lattice Pie
Roasted Plums with Mascarpone Cream, and Amaretti
Rolled-Oat Shortcakes with Cherry Compote
Apricot Custard Tart
Lemon-Pistachio Tart

Crumbly tarts, a lattice-topped pie, and meringues with syrupy fruit are right at home on this rustic table.

A square buttercream wedding cake is adorned with apples, peaches, pears, plums, and currants to soften its edges and give it a charming appeal.

The tea-towel runners, old-fashioned cake stands, sturdy white dishes, and wooden boards and crates used to display them are straight out of a farmhouse kitchen. Even an antique footstool becomes a pie stand. Since the fruits are full of flavor, they lend themselves well to simple desserts. You could have these sweets catered, or ask loved ones to bake their favorites.

Fragrant Garland

garland

Perfume your ceremony or reception site with a garland of sweetly scented lilies. The sturdy flowers are abundant in spring. For a long space or a double-layer strand, have your florist wire several garlands (it’s best done the day of the wedding). Hang lengths of up to 16 blooms each in sections; each swag shown at the left is an individual garland, as are the two vertical sections. Be sure to leave extra wire for hanging; you can hide this wire with wide satin bows. Lily pollen often stains; you may want to remove the yellow anthers.

Fragrant Garland How-To
Thread 26-gauge wire through first bloom; attach at base with floral tape (or, for an end, tape wire to base of a closed bulb). Then slide on second bloom, to overlap previous flower a bit; tape base. Repeat until you reach desired length, leaving wire for hanging.

Wedding Photography Advice from the Little Wedding Guide

photographer

Researching wedding photographers online first can save a lot of time before setting up any actual appointments.

View different photographers’ portfolios and read about their experience and approach — from this, you’ll quickly be able to tell if this is someone with whom you share a similar vision.

Ask how many weddings the photographer has done and whether or not he or she has photographed at your wedding venue. Familiarity with the space ahead of time will allow for more efficiency on the part of the photographer, who will be able to plan for different shots and situations unique to that venue.

Also, make sure that the photographer you choose will be the one who will be at your wedding. If you’re dealing with a large company who has several photographers available, they may send whoever’s available on your wedding date. Be sure to get this in writing, as part of the contract with the photographer.

Once you narrow down your list and choose a photographer who meets your needs and style, talk with him or her about the various wedding services that they offer. Typical services include:

  • Engagement Portraits

  • Wedding Proofs

  • Wedding Albums

  • Parents’ Albums

  • Extra Prints

  • Negatives

The cost for each of these services varies greatly from photographer to photographer. Decide what you need before interviewing someone so that you have an idea of what the total cost will look like after ordering extra prints, purchasing the negatives, etc.

Note: Most experienced wedding photographers will charge quite a bit extra for orders of extra prints (which is also how they make their money) and for selling you the original negatives. Some photographers won’t sell the negatives at all. Find out up front what these costs are, and what your photographer’s policy on obtaining negatives is.

Some final questions to ask include the following:

  1. What is your payment/deposit procedure?

  2. What is the cancellation policy?

  3. What is your policy/cost for overtime, should my wedding run longer than scheduled?

  4. Do you offer any sort of money-back guarantee?

  5. Do you have a standard list of photos/poses that I can choose from? (Ex. Bride and Father Dancing, Exchange of Rings at Ceremony, Cake Cutting at Reception, etc.)

  6. How soon after the wedding will I be able to review the proofs? How many proofs will I receive?

  7. When will I receive my wedding albums?

  8. Do you have a website where our family and guests can order additional prints?

Butterfly Releases

butterfly

There is nothing more delightful or exciting than a butterfly release to accompany your nuptials. These beautiful creatures are majestic yet delicate and command the attention of guests as they are released into creation.

To get the most out of your butterfly release, remember the following:

1. Make sure your butterfly breeder is licensed.
2. Order your butterflies at least 6 weeks in advance. Remember these butterflies must be hatched, and raised so order early.
3. Make sure the temperature is warm; butterflies enjoy warm weather the most. Anything over 75 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal.
4. Butterflies should be released before dark so check the time of your release. Your butterflies won’t fly if it’s too late in the evening.
5. Check your local weather for forecasts for rain. Butterflies won’t fly in the rain (would you fly in the rain?)
6. When you receive your butterflies keep them cool and safe.
7. Assign an “official butterfly keeper” if you won’t be able to watch the butterflies yourself – this is where a wedding planner comes in handy!
8. “Thaw” your butterflies 45 minutes in advance of the release so they will be their most active. If you release them too soon, they won’t be as beautiful, and if you leave them in their packages too long, you have a bunch of dead butterflies.
9. Make sure all of your guests know when to open their butterfly envelopes. This is so they don’t release too soon.
10. Open the envelops and release the butterfly slowly. Allow them to come out and take off on their own.
11. Enjoy the butterflies as they take off into flight.

Fall Wedding Cake

fall cake

I have a theme today if you could not tell. J I guess fall is quickly approaching and I love the beautiful colors that it brings. For those of you who are having a fall themed wedding I congratulate you because it has to be one of the prettiest color pallets of any season. However, it is sometimes hard to find a cake that keeps the theme and is not too fallish. I think this cake does the trick. The detailing is simply gorgeous and the touch of fall leaves finishes off the cake. Source
