DIY Seashell Candle Favors

seashell

If you are having a beach wedding, then here is an inexpensive favor idea that your guests are sure to love! If you live close to a beach collect a variety of shells and make seashell candles. If you are not close to the sea, have no worries! Shells can be bought fairly cheap at your local craft store. To make these candles, simply follow the directions below.

What you’ll need:
• Bar of paraffin
• Wicks
• Metal wick holders
• Double boiler with a pouring lip
• Shells
• Stubs of colored candles
Most of these items can be found at your local craft store. If you can’t find metal wick holders, remove the wicks from inexpensive tea lights. Use stubs from colored candles to make candles in various shades.

Method:
Clean shells in a 10% bleach solution. Rinse with cool water and let dry.
Cut up the paraffin block into smaller chunks with a sharp knife. Melt them in the top of the double boiler by heating the water below to a slow simmer. Use the paraffin as is, or you may wish to add bits of colored wax for different color combinations. This is a great way to use up your old candle stubs. Experiment with color blends, but remember that the wax will be a shade darker when it dries.
Cover a steady surface with plastic or newspapers. Balance one of the shells on a small cup and slowly pour in the melted wax. Immediately place the wick and wick holder in the center of the shell. Leave wax to cool for at least 30 minutes so all the wax will harden fully.
Enjoy your beautiful seashell candles!

Wedding Bell Ringer

bell ringer

A bell ringer is a great addition to any wedding. A bell ringer comes down the aisle either before the wedding party, or before the bride. Most often the bell ringer comes before the bride, and sometimes yells “The bride is coming, the bride is coming.” The bell ringer is usually a child around 2-8 years old. Bell ringers are a great option if you have many young children you want to include in your wedding. Bell ringers may also take the place of a flower girl or ring bearer. If you don’t  like the ring bearer tradition, or if you have a child that you think would enjoy being a bell ringer more, then this is a great option. One thing is for sure, the bell ringer is simply adorable and is sure to be a crowd favorite!

Salsa Bar!

salsa bar

Spice up your wedding, literally, with a salsa bar! Treat your guests to a lovely display of chips and various salsas. Place the chips in beautiful tall glass containers. Have a variety of salsas out to please every guest. Make sure you label the salsas as mild, medium, or hot, because you don’t want the flower girl dashing for the drink station! This is a great appetizer or a late night snack for your guests to enjoy after all of their dancing. Another option is to have this station out the whole night and let your guests munch the entire evening!

Variety is Key for 2008

cake

When I went for my cake tasting, it was so hard to choose what flavor to have for my wedding cake. So, what did I do? I got a different flavor for every tier of the cake! I am not alone on giving variety at the wedding. Choosing a different flavor for every tier has become one of the biggest trends for 2008. I loved this idea because it gives your guests some variety and allows you to venture out of the realm of vanilla buttercream and experience something new. One thing you should keep in mind is that traditionally the cake is cut from the bottom tier. So… if you or your fiancé are cake smashers, then I recommend going with a flavor that will not stain as much on that tier. Stay away from jams and jellies or other stain prone ingredients, unless you want that beautiful dress to have a big stain in the front!
